Students requesting a name change must present official documentation with their new name, such as a driver’s license, passport, Social Security card or court records.
Virginia Commonwealth University has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) to provide enrollment and degree verifications. Current students can receive free enrollment verification by clicking the NSC link in the VCU portal. Employers should go directly to the NSC to request degree verifications.
Current and former students may also submit the Request for Information or Verification form to Records and Registration.
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, students can request that directory information not be released without their consent. To make this request, submit the Withhold Directory Information form no later than 14 days after the beginning of the semester. If such a request is made, Records and Registration will not be able to verify attendance, earned degrees or any other directory information without the consent of the student. The request is effective until revoked in writing by the student.
